May the 4th Be With You

As an avid Star Wars fan, May 4th was a fun and inspiring day for me. If you’re unfamiliar with what is special about that particular space on the calendar, it’s the annual ‘May the 4th be with You’ day. Yes, I’m geeking out, but I’m comfortable with that.

Most anyone who knows me or has worked with me are pretty clear an a few things:

  • I love to write
  • I’m a huge fan of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings
  • My family (including the cats) is important to me; as is wildlife
  • I aim to serve
  • My sense of humor is insanely cheesy (thanks, dad!)

While not always in that order, they’re all there. This flavors all that I do, all that I write about, all my decisions. This essentially, is my voice. This is my force – what gives me power.

Finding the voice of your business and your brand can be tough, no doubt about it. Is the voice of your business and brand the same? The jury’s still out on that one for some, but for me, I’d say yes. So how does one find his or her voice in business? Here are a couple tips:

  • What do people think of when they think of you? (It’s okay – ask! People love to help.)
  • What are your strongest values? Can you or have you already incorporated them into how you do business?
  • What is your ‘why’ for being in business to begin with?

Here’s an example using my brand slogan: Foxy Marketing. Values Driven.

Foxy Marketing (sense of humor, but also what I do. The use of a fox in my branding/logo indicates my love for wildlife). Values Driven (what I stand for, and also stating in undertones that I am here to serve).

A small snippet encapsulating the value I offer though my unique voice.

Take a few minutes and see if you can answer those questions. You’ll have a strong basis for finding your voice.
